2011 North Sumatra Jazz Festival – “Discover Indonesia Experience”

After the “Road to Festival event” on the past May 20, finally the North Sumatra Jazz Festival 2011 held right as it had been planned on July 1 & 2, 2011 at Danau Toba International Hotel Convention Center. This festival brought up several great Indonesian’s jazz musicians such as Idang Rasjidi collaborated with KSP – a pop-jazz band that had been off-stage for about 13 years before realeased their third album in the end of 2010, Donny Suhendra with Donny Suhendra Project, Yovie Widianto Fusion, Ligro, Sruti Respati & Friends, Emerald BEX, Erucakra Mahameru & C-Man, Suhu Band – a jazz-malay band from Malaysia, and other local jazz performer such as Ethno Big Band, Progressive Band, and Kolegium Musikum. 2011 Medan Jazz Nation

Started from an idea of Dimardi Abas – a founder of KISS FM Group Medan, the biggest radio FM in town, who also a jazz lovers – with friends who belonged to a jazz community in the city of Medan that call themself as Medan Jazz Community, collaborated with Department of Culture and Tourism of Medan, had took the city to create a jazz event which named as Medan Jazz Nation 2011. The event was held in two places at once, which are at Plaza Medan Fair and The View Music Lounge and Bar – Grand Swiss-Bel Hotel Medan for two exciting days on May 27 to 28, 2011 at the same time with the celebration of the 421 years anniversary of the city of Medan and the World Environment Day 2011.

The purpose of the event, that scheduled to be held every year where in the future with the possibility for jazz musicians invited from all over Indonesia and even the world, in addition to lifting the traditional musicians who collaborated with all North Sumatra’s jazz musicians, and foster public of the city of Medan and North Sumatra’s interest to the jazz music itself, and also is an effort to promote the city of Medan for Visit Medan Year 2012.

Public interest looks big enough that seen with many visitors who had came to witnessed the appearance of local jazz musicians itself such like Yeppi Romero and his Acoustic Smile, as well as other local jazz musicians, as well as guest stars, such as idang Rasjidi, Dwiki Dharmawan and World Peace Ensemble, and also Nita Aartsen Quatro.

Hopefully this event will be held annually and its goal to promote the city of Medan as well as the jazz music itself to Medan and North Sumatra’s public specifically will be accomplish successfully. Continue reading
