2011 Rock Spektakuler Festival – Day #2

Entering its 2nd day, the festival is increasingly met by the audiences with higher numbers than the previous day. The success of the committee in promoting this festival, the appearance of musicians on the first day that really amaze the audience, as well as the public – rock music lovers yearning to rock music with genres such thrash metal, speed metal, heavy metal, alternative rock, grunge rock, slow rock which lately this past years were replaced by pop rock – malay bands which, according to the attention of most Indonesian music’s observers is only to put forward the music production label’s demand for recording of such pop rock – malay band with song’s lyrics that seem whiny and far away from things that smell masculine.

The unique thing in this 2nd day of the festival, the committee was brought one of the leading jazz band of Medan city, Erucakra Mahameru Band or also known as C Man, which in this early March performed on 2011 Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, as the guest star in this rock festival. The band jazz’s genre which is Neo Progressive Jazz that also attractive, seems not far different with the rock music beat.

Seeing the people’s enthusiasm of the festival, it appears possibility that the festival will be held again next year or annually. Let’s hope that this will happen and the era of true rock music as in the early 70’s and 90’s will hit Indonesia back again. Hail Rock!

Erucakra Mahameru Band on 2011 Rock Spektakuler Festival – Guitarist Erucakra Mahameru is the first modern jazz composer whose music is included in the Apple i Tunes Jazz Chart. The mini album “C Man” featured a song which brought him to fame, “Aranti’s Code”, which was later remastered by the great Adam Nunn at the renowned Abbey Road Studios EMI Music London. After the release of the remastered version, Erucakra decided to form the C Man band, comprising of Edie Zam (bass), Johan Mustika (keyboard), and Rustian Karim (drums). Eruscakra’s music is supposedly hailed as the new jazz genre, the Neo Progressive Jazz. It is no wonder that his music is hailed as “vision of the future”.

    • Thanks a lot Lionel for your appreciation 🙂
The great lighting with many colours, added with smokes shot – sometimes – into the stage had made lots of ideas came to my head and really helped me to make such photographs.
It was a really great 2 days of rock festival to coverage.

    • Waduh, jadi segan nih dikasi komen sama the great musician-nya langsung. Aku salah satu fanatik jazz dan fans C-Man jg Bang 🙂

Sukses selalu buat Bang Eru dan C-Man.
Keep on jazz-ing, and hope we meet at 2012 Java Jazz Festival!

  1. Got this for my son, who loves Rock Band. He likes the songs, plays them all the time. It is great to have the music notated, though the songs are too many ages. (like 8 for one song). Drummers can’t turn pages that quickly. The notation could have been simplified and repeat signs used which would facilitate much easier reading. But my main gripe is the play-along CD included has no words, no singer? Why would anyone want to jam along to an instrumental version of a Rock Song? I can only assume that there was a license fee involved, so the publisher cheaped out. Also you should know, the CD included is not the actual band playing, is it group of studio musicians. The drum charts are not for beginners. Lots of 16th notes and syncopation.
